G.B. Hodge, M.D. Lifetime Achievement AwardPast Recipients

Critera — Highest award given by CHE. Consideration for a “lifetime” of service to USC Upstate including extraordinary actions, gifts, and/or “history altering” influence. Named in honor of the founding chairman of the Spartanburg Commission for Higher Education.

Founders’ Day AwardPast Recipients

Critera — Recognition to those persons in the larger community who have been of exceptional assistance to the University.

CHE Distinguished Service AwardPast Recipients

Critera — Recognition of a faculty member(s) and/or a staff member(s) who has demonstrated a long and distinguished career of service to the University, characterized by exceptional dedication to the work at hand and to the institution. It also may to honor a senior student(s) for similar reasons, graduating in May or December ceremonies, with recognition occurring up to one year following graduation.

“Exceptional dedication” may be manifest in any of several ways … leadership of others, exceptional work ethic, persistence in the face of hardship, patterns of innovation, putting others before self, pride of task ownership, commitment to students, persistent commitment to quality over the career span, exceptional representation of the University

in the community, a combination of the above, or other such criteria as the Commission may deem appropriate. As a graduating senior, “exceptional dedication” must be manifest by overall academic excellence or by marked improvement moving from academic difficulty to academic excellence; and, of equal importance, by outstanding commitment to service to others while pursuing the student career, or other such criteria as the Commission may deem appropriate.
