The USC Upstate women’s soccer team continues its non-conference schedule Thursday at 7 p.m. at Furman and Sunday at 2 p.m. against Radford from County University Soccer Stadium.

Upstate enters the weekend unbeaten in two of its last three matches and has scored eight goals during that stretch. Senior Haley Gethin leads the club and ranks second in the Atlantic Sun with three goals and third with seven points.

Junior Rachel Baylor stands second on the team with two goals and Kenzie Major and Kate Winegarner own a team-leading two assists apiece.

Defensively, senior keeper Ellen Bright ranks first in the league with 5.75 saves per game and is second in total saves with 23.

“We’ve made some great strides this year and are so much better than where we were at this point last season,” USC Upstate head coach Abby Minihan said. “I’m encouraged by what I see at practice and think we are getting better each and every day.”

Furman fell to 2-2-0 overall on Sunday following a 2-0 setback at No. 16 Auburn. The Paladins, however, are 2-1-0 at home with wins over Oklahoma and North Greenville.

Senior forward Stephanie DeVita leads Furman with four goals and eight points and is one of only two Paladins with a goal this season.

“We are hungry to put ourselves in position to pick up two wins this weekend, “Upstate senior Alexa Hone said. “We know these games will challenge us mentally and physically, but we also know what we have to do to be successful. Our goal is to continue to serve each other and our coaches with all of our mind, body and soul.”

Radford also sports a 2-2-0 overall record after dropping a 3-0 decision Sunday to College of Charleston. The Highlanders feature a balanced offensive attack that includes goals from six different players.

“We are looking to bounce back from Sunday with positive performances this weekend,” Minihan added. “The competition will test our ability to be resilient and will allow us to see how much information we have retained over the last few weeks.”
