Spartans Set to Host USC Upstate Fall Classic

The USC Upstate women’s tennis team gets its first taste of home action this weekend when the Spartans host the 2015 USC Upstate Fall Classic from the USC Upstate Tennis Complex.

Armstrong, Campbell, Gardner-Webb, Kennesaw State, Presbyterian, Radford, UNC Asheville, Western Carolina and Wofford complete the 10-team field.

Doubles play is scheduled to begin Friday at 11 a.m. and singles action follows at 12 p.m.

Upstate freshman Carol Sigaki is slated to face Nicole Fossa Huergo of Armstrong in Singles Draw I and fellow freshman Filippa Ericson will matchup against Shannon Bettiol of Western Carolina.

Junior Anna Zoske opens competition in Singles Draw II and battles Laura Dean of Kennesaw State, while freshman Vale Zarama battles Tracy Johnson of Presbyterian in Singles Draw III.

Felicia Ahlbord is matched up with Ewa Telenga of Campbell and Sarah Vande Berg will go against Mary Walker Mixon of Gardner-Webb in Singles Draw IV.

Newcomers Anna Nemeth and Ruby Kubac will play in Singles Draw V and are pitted against Gaby Hurt of Western Carolina and Claire Chase of Gardner-Webb, respectively.

Sigaki and Ericson are paired together in Doubles Draw A and are scheduled to face Carolina Ferrari and Johnson in their opening match. Zoske and Ahlborg battle Elizabeth Ansari and Savannah Taranto in Doubles Draw B, while Zarama and Vande Berg take on Claire Bedi and Isabel Boada of Campbell in Doubles Draw D.

The qualifying matches in Doubles Draw D feature Nemeth and Kubac facing Catherine White and Natalie Kitchen of Gardner-Webb.
