The USC Upstate volleyball team enters this weekend’s action as one of the top teams statistically, both as a team and individually, after the NCAA released its first statistical report of the season this afternoon.
Upstate is currently tied for the nation’s lead in won-loss percentage as it improved to 8-0 last night following a four-set victory over South Carolina State. The Spartans also lead the nation, among 329 programs, in team digs with 555 and team service aces with 72. Upstate sits 11th or better in aces per set (3rd, 2.40), digs per set (3rd, 18.50), team attacks per set (3rd, 40.13), team total attacks (4th, 1,204) and team kills (11th, 408).
Individually, freshman Madison Haake leads the way for the Spartans. Haake tops the nation in service aces and is tied for first in triple-doubles. Haake, through the first eight matches, has compiled 20 service aces and three triple-doubles. She also ranks sixth in aces per set (0.67).
Upstate is back in action this weekend as it travels to Clemson to participate in the Clemson Classic. The Spartans face Presbyterian College at 1:30 p.m. and East Tennessee State at 4:30 p.m. on Friday, and conclude tournament play Saturday afternoon at 4:00 p.m. against Clemson.
