Macon, Ga. – After recording two triple-doubles and two double-doubles in four matches last week, USC Upstate freshman setter/right side Madison Haake has been named the A-Sun Player and Freshman of the Week, it was announced this afternoon by the league office.
Haake earns her first career A-Sun Player of the Week honor and second Freshman of the Week after receiving the accolade last week.
The freshman was named to the AmericInn Runnin’ Bulldog Classic All-Tournament Team after tallying two double-doubles and one triple-double as Upstate took home the tournament championship. Haake began the weekend by registering her third triple-double of the season in a 3-1 win over The Citadel with 12 kills, 15 assists and 14 digs. She fell just two assists shy of another triple-double on Saturday against Southeast Missouri State but ended up with 13 kills and 14 digs in the winning effort. Haake concluded the weekend tournament by setting a new career-high of 18 kills to go with 12 digs against Gardner-Webb.
She began the week on Tuesday with a triple-double in the Spartans 3-1 win over Winthrop in their home opener. Haake finished the match with 13 kills, 20 assists and 11 digs as Upstate picked up its first-ever home victory over the Eagles.
For the week, Haake compiled 56 kills, 51 digs, 47 assists, 10 service aces and five blocks. She led the team in kills and service aces.
Haake currently leads the A-Sun in service aces while ranking in the top 10 in assists and digs.
The Spartans return to action tonight as it travels to South Carolina State for a 7 p.m. contest.
