USC Upstate freshman forward Gordon Wild has been selected as a HERO Sports D1 Men’s Soccer Stud of the Week following his record-breaking performance last Saturday in the Spartans 7-0 victory over Presbyterian College.
Wild was named the A-Sun Player of the Week on Tuesday after setting a new Division I era record with four goals against PC. Upstate scored the most goals in a match since tallying eight against USC Aiken in the first round of the 2004 Peach Belt Tournament during the Division II era. The freshman from Steimel, Germany is the first Spartan to score four goals in a game since Gary Lynch found the back of the net four times in a 7-1 victory over Union (Ky.) in 2004.
Wild added to his performance on Tuesday evening as he scored two more goals to lift Upstate to a 3-0 win over VMI.
Entering this weekend, he leads the A-Sun in shots, shots on-goal and game-winning goals, and is tied for the league-lead in goals and points.
Wild is now a finalist for the D1 Men’s Soccer HERO of the Week award. To vote, click the link here. Polls close on Monday evening.
