Macon, Ga. – Senior center Brittany Starling is a unanimous selection for the A-Sun Preseason All-Conference Team while the USC Upstate women’s basketball team has been predicted to finish fifth in the A-Sun Preseason Coaches Poll, it was announced this afternoon by the league office.
Starling earns her third straight Preseason All-Conference accolade from the A-Sun and is her second honor this season. She was recognized as a First Team Preseason All-Conference performer by College Sports Madness.
The senior was named Second Team All-Conference last season after averaging 12.1 points and 8.9 rebounds per game. Starling became just the sixth player in school history to record 1,000 points and 700 rebounds for her career. She ranks sixth all-time at Upstate in rebounding and 15th in scoring.
Starling led the A-Sun last year with a 52.3% field-goal percentage and was third in rebounding. She collected 11 double-doubles and set two career-highs in points and rebounds. Starling compiled a career-high 30 points at College of Charleston and pulled down a career-best 20 rebounds in a home win over Maryland Eastern-Shore. She became the first Spartan since Tee’Ara Copney in 2012 to score at least 30 points in a game while her 20 rebounds are tied for fifth in a game in school history. She also had the conference’s first 20-20 game since February of 2012 after finishing with 21 points and 20 rebounds versus UMES.
The center was also named A-Sun Co-Player of the Week twice by the league and Player of the Week once by College Sports Madness.
Upstate garnered 33 points in the preseason poll for the fifth place projection.
