Clarksville, Tenn. – Sidney Dermody and Payton Culler each posted opening round scores of 78 to lead the USC Upstate women’s golf team on day one of the F&M Bank APSU Intercollegiate from the Clarksville Country Club.
Upstate fired a first round 323 and is currently in sixth place of the team standings. A total of four strokes separate the Spartans from fourth place Belmont and one behind Murray State in fifth place. Lipscomb opened play with a 305 on Monday and are in first place by eight strokes over Tennessee Tech.
Dermody and Culler are both tied for 11th place and sit just five strokes back of day one leader Samantha Griffin of Lipscomb, who compiled a first round score of 73 (+1).
Dermody recorded her best round of the season with a 78 (+6) and is one of eight players tied for 11th place. She overcame a rough start to the day by finishing her final 12 holes at even-par. Culler also turned in a round of 78 to tie for 11th position highlighted by carding three birdies.
Malika Allie currently sits tied for 28th after posting a score of 82 (+10) followed by Allea Hawkins in a tie for 37th with an 85. Allie Gennaula rounds out the first round for Upstate in 47th place after tallying her score of 93.
The final day of the F&M Bank APSU Intercollegiate will begin at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday morning. The Spartans will tee off on holes 6-10.
