The USC Upstate men’s soccer team wraps up its home schedule this week beginning Wednesday evening as it welcomes the Stetson Hatters to County University Soccer Stadium for a 7 p.m. conference game.
All fans in attendance on Wednesday are encouraged to wear green as Upstate will be holding its “Wear Green” night.
The Spartans enter the week with a 5-4-0 overall record and 1-1-0 conference mark following their first A-Sun victory of the season on Oct. 3 with a 3-1 victory at Jacksonville. Gordon Wild led Upstate with two goals and one assist, while Heiko Allmendinger added one goal and Hassan Haddad contributed three saves.
As a team, the Spartans rank second nationally in scoring offense as they average 2.56 goals per game. Upstate also sits 13th in points per game at 6.22.
Wild continues to lead the country in numerous offensive categories including goals per game, points per game, shots per game, shots on-goal per game, goals and points. He tops the A-Sun in both goals, points and shots. Leon Schwarzer also leads the conference with five assists and is tied for third with six goals. Haddad is fourth in saves (27) and fifth in save percentage (.628).
Stetson currently sits at 4-8-1 overall and 0-3-0 in the conference under second-year head coach Ernie Yarborough. Lucas Diniz leads the Hatters with nine goals and 19 points this season, and 11 different players have one assist each. Paul Ladwig has totaled 57 saves and a 1.35 goals against average in net.
Stetson leads the all-time series over the Spartans 5-1-2 including a 3-2 double-overtime victory last season in DeLand, Fla.
