Macon, Ga. – USC Upstate setter/right side Madison Haake capped off her impressive first season with the Spartans as she was named to the A-Sun All-Freshman Team Wednesday evening by the conference.
Haake is the fifth Upstate volleyball player in program history to be selected to the All-Freshman Team joining teammates Lexi Gober and Kayla Eversgerd. Gober and Eversgerd were voted to the squad in 2012, while Mindy Quimby and Emily Sanders earned the distinction following the 2009 season.
The freshman from Bartelso, Ill. concluded the 2015 season by starting in 28 matches and making an appearance in 101 sets. Haake led the Spartans with 334 digs, while ranking second in kills (262), assists (316) and service aces (31). She ranked third in the A-Sun in service aces, seventh in digs and tenth in assists.
Haake was fourth nationally this season with a conference-leading six triple-doubles and added 11 double-doubles. She became the first Upstate player since Sara Henrichs in 1998, and first in the A-Sun since 2011, to record a triple-double after collecting 16 kills, 25 assists and 14 digs in the season-opening win versus UNC Asheville. Haake also had triple-doubles against Winthrop, The Citadel, North Florida, Jacksonville and Kennesaw State.
She recorded a season-best 18 kills twice against Gardner-Webb and UT Martin, dished out 28 assists at NJIT and compiled 20 digs versus Kennesaw State. Overall, Haake logged 13 matches with double-digit kills and assists, and had 10 or more digs in all but nine matches.
Haake was named the A-Sun Freshman of the Week twice this season and the Player of the Week once. She also received Tournament MVP honors at the Charlotte Invitational.
