Macon, Ga. – USC Upstate senior Shannon Weiss has been named to the Atlantic Sun All-Academic Team for the second straight season for her performance both on the court and in the classroom, it was announced this afternoon by the conference office.

Weiss, a nursing major from Highland, Ill., has compiled a 3.95 grade-point average while earning A-Sun Conference Scholar and A-Sun Academic Honor Roll accolades throughout her career.

Weiss appeared in 19 matches as a libero this season for Upstate after spending most of her career as a right-side hitter. She played in a total of 67 sets, and finished third on the team in service aces with 24 and was fourth with 273 digs. Weiss ranked tied for tenth in the A-Sun in service aces and 13th in digs.

The senior set two career-highs this season in both service aces and digs. Weiss opened the year with eight service aces in a 3-1 victory over UNC Asheville, falling just one shy of tying the school record. She posted 25 digs in two matches against Southeast Missouri State and Kennesaw State. Weiss compiled at least 10 digs in all but five matches she played in this season.

Lipscomb’s Kayla Ostrom was named the A-Sun Scholar-Athlete of the Year after being a unanimous selection to the All-Academic Team.
