Civility Week Begins Monday, January 25

Through Civility Week, January 25-29,  USC Upstate hopes to foster a culture of civility through respectful discourse and behavior. Civility Week_poster

Civility is about more than being polite and using good manners, both of which are very important. Civility fosters a deep self-awareness, even as it is characterized by true respect for others.

So Spartans do your part and check out some of these events that will help to make our campus a fun and respectful place for everyone!

MONDAY, JANUARY 25

TUESDAY, JANUARY 26

  • SNEAKY STEREOTYPES: HOW TO BE AWARE OF MICROAGGRESSIVE BEHAVIOR — 5:30 p.m. • Tukey Theatre; Learn effective ways to be culturally aware of and to communicate with diverse populations.

WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 27

  • ARE YOU BEING THE BEST SPARTAN YOU CAN BE? — 11:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. • The George

THURSDAY, JANUARY 28

  • ARE YOU BEING THE BEST SPARTAN YOU CAN BE? 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. • Sansbury CLC Lobby
  • STAND UP CAROLINA Facilitated by Corey Ingram, 3 p.m. • Tukey Theatre. A presentation on increasing awareness among students, faculty and staff about becoming an accountable bystander to prevent sexual violence and interpersonal violence and to empower us to change and challenge negative behaviors.
  • TRUE STRENGTH Facilitated by Corey Ingram, 5:30 p.m. • Sansbury CLC Quiet Room. A man’s role is essential in preventing interpersonal violence. True Strength encourages men to unite and take an active role against sexual assault and violence by sharing new and innovative ideas to make bystander accountability the norm and not the exception.
