The USC Upstate women’s basketball team embarks on a two-game roadtrip to the Sunshine State beginning with a contest at Florida Gulf Coast on Saturday at 4 p.m.
Upstate won its Atlantic Sun opener last Saturday at NJIT, prevailing 58-41. Travonda Haddock scored a new career-high 20 points while finishing 8-for-11 from the field and tied a career-high four steals. Haddock was named A-Sun Co-Player of the Week on Monday for her efforts. Brittany Clency scored 12 points in the victory as Upstate won its conference opener for the first time since the 2012-13 season.
The Spartans lead the league in scoring, rebounding, free throws made, free throws attempted and blocks and are second in steals per game as well as assists per game. Brittany Starling leads the conference in rebounds and is third in scoring. Starling currently ranks third among NCAA Division I players in rebounds and sixth in rebounds per game. Haddock is second in the Atlantic Sun in blocks while Clency is free throw percentage.
Florida Gulf Coast enters Saturday’s game with a 13-4 record and is the defending league champion. The Eagles have earned victories over Power 5 schools Arizona and Auburn this season. Florida Gulf Coast leads the all-time series 13-2 and has won the past eight meetings.
