The USC Upstate men’s basketball team wraps up the non-conference portion of its schedule Tuesday evening when it hosts the North Carolina A&T Aggies at 7 p.m. inside the Hodge Center.
Upstate enters the non-conference finale with a 5-11 record while North Carolina A&T currently sits at 5-10 overall.
The Spartans picked up their second straight victory last Saturday after Mike Cunningham’s three-pointer with 10 seconds left gave Upstate a 70-68 win over UMKC in Spartanburg. Cunningham led four Upstate players in double-figures after tying his career-high of 18 points. Michael Buchanan and Deion Holmes each had 12 points, while Josh Cuthbertson contributed 11. Buchanan added a game-high seven rebounds, and dished out a career-high four assists along with Cuthbertson.
The Aggies are under the direction of fourth-year head coach Cy Alexander, who is also in his 26th season of coaching overall. North Carolina A&T is led by Bruce Beckford as he is averaging a team-high 16.4 points and 7.7 rebounds per game this season. Sam Hunt also contributes 13.8 points per contest.
The Spartans and Aggies are meeting for the third time in program history with Upstate holding a 2-0 lead in the all-time series. The two teams met twice last season with the Spartans winning 63-46 in Greensboro on Nov. 17, 2014 and 65-54 in Spartanburg on Dec. 4, 2014.
