Amy Szymanowski Earns First Career A-Sun Player of the Week Honor

Macon, Ga. – USC Upstate senior third baseman Amy Szymanowski has been named the A-Sun Player of the Week for the first time in her career Monday afternoon following her offensive performance last weekend at the Upstate Invitational.

Szymanowski posted a .500 average at the plate last weekend as the Spartans went 5-1 during the Upstate Invitational with wins over N.C. Central twice, Oakland, Akron and Savannah State. The senior transfer went 10-for-20 offensively in six games played, and led the team with three home runs, 10 RBI and 19 total bases. She compiled a .950 slugging percentage and .524 on-base percentage, and scored six runs.

The Land O’Lakes, Fla. native had at least two hits in three games and drove in four or more runs twice. She began the weekend on Friday with a four RBI performance to go with two hits, including her first homer of the season, as the Spartans defeated N.C. Central 14-0 in five innings. Szymanowski followed with a two home run game and had five RBI in a 14-4 five-inning win against Savannah State.

Upstate returns to action Wednesday as it travels to Charlotte to face the 49ers in a doubleheader starting at 3 p.m. from the D.L. Phillips Softball Complex.
