Civic Engagement and Millennials: Do Young People Give A Damn?

March 23, 2016 at 9:29 am

Join Dr. Abe Goldberg, director of the Office of Service-Learning and Community Engagement and associate professor of political science, for coffee and conversation Thursday, March 24.

The topic of discussion will be “Civic Engagement and Millennials: Do Young  People Give A Damn?”

A national publication recently referred to young people as narcissistic, overconfident, entitled and lazy.  These are not characteristics of engaged citizens, Goldberg said, but many USC Upstate students seem to care very deeply about the world around them.  This session provides opportunities to reconcile the stereotypes with the reality through a conversation about civic engagement and young Americans.

This event is presented in conjunction with the Office of Service-Learning & Community Engagement as part of AmeriCorps Week. Refreshments will be served.

The Spartan Speaker Lecture Series (S3) was created to contribute to the intellectual development of USC Upstate students through the presentation of interesting and relevant information on a variety of scholastic and community oriented interests. Sponsored by the Office of Student Life, S3 Lectures are FREE for USC Upstate students, faculty, and staff.
