Macon, Ga. – USC Upstate junior pitcher Holly McKinnon has been named the A-Sun Co-Pitcher of the Week this afternoon by the league office following her performance on the mound last week in seven road games.
Upstate went 6-1 during its seven-game trip in the state of Florida including four in the Under Armour Showcase hosted by South Florida. The Spartans earned wins last week over Green Bay, New Mexico State, Central Michigan and Army.
McKinnon went 4-0 with a 1.15 ERA in four appearances with two starts, two complete games and one shutout. She allowed just four runs over 24.1 innings pitched on 18 hits, nine walks and 22 strikeouts, while limiting opponents to a .205 average at the plate.
The junior struck out a season-high 12 batters on Mar. 12 as Upstate defeated Central Michigan 1-0 in eight innings while surrendering just four hits. McKinnon also earned a complete game victory on Mar. 11 in a 3-2 win over New Mexico State in which she gave up two runs. She concluded the week pitching 11.0 straight scoreless innings and allowed seven hits, two walks and striking out 14.
McKinnon leads the A-Sun this season with a 13-1 record on the mound and boasts a 1.99 ERA.
It is the second weekly honor from the conference this season for McKinnon as she was named the A-Sun Co-Pitcher of the Week on Feb. 29.
