Macon, Ga. – For the third time this season, the USC Upstate softball team has had a player receive a weekly award from the A-Sun as junior outfielder Ryan Rector was named the Player of the Week this afternoon by the league office.
Rector earns the first weekly honor of her career from the conference and is the third Spartan this season to be recognized along with teammates Amy Szymanowski and Holly McKinnon. Szymanowski was selected as the A-Sun Player on the Week on Feb. 22 and McKinnon the A-Sun Co-Pitcher of the Week on Feb. 29.
The junior boasted a .421 (8-of-19) average last week as Upstate went 6-0 including four wins during the Buffalo Wild Wings Spartan Invitational. She totaled four home runs, nine RBI, nine runs scored, 23 total bases, one double and one triple. Rector also compiled a 1.211 slugging percentage and an on-base percentage of .522.
The Belton, S.C. native was named to the Buffalo Wild Wings Spartan Invitational All-Tournament Team over the weekend after finishing the four games with a .583 average at the plate and a 1.667 slugging percentage. She hit all four of her home runs over a two-game stretch against Valparaiso and SIU-Edwardsville. Rector tied a school record for home runs in game with three in a 12-4 win versus Valparaiso, equaling a mark set by Kendall Settlemyre in 2014 and Michelle Bequette in 1993. She set two career-highs in that game with three homers and five RBI.
