The USC Upstate baseball team will play its fourth consecutive game against an SEC opponent on Tuesday as the Spartans play No. 12 South Carolina at Fluor Field at 7 p.m.
Upstate enters Tuesday’s matchup with an 8-9 record after being swept by Kentucky last weekend. The Spartans dropped the opener on Friday 5-3 and were swept in a Saturday doubleheader 3-0 and 3-1. Upstate will try to earn its first win against the Gamecocks in the 10th meeting between the schools.
Junior right-handed pitcher Tyler Jackson was named the A-Sun Co-Pitcher of the Week earlier on Monday. The Piedmont, S.C. native struck out a career-high 13 batters and allowed five hits in a complete game 7-1 victory at The Citadel last Tuesday. In his last two starts, Jackson has allowed two runs on 12 hits with 25 strikeouts in 17.0 innings.
South Carolina is 15-2 and the 12th-ranked team in the country following a weekend sweep of Charleston Southern. The Gamecocks lost 5-0 to Clemson on March 5 in an earlier appearance at Fluor Field.
