Metropolitan Studies Institute Study on Poverty Sparks Community Response

A recentstudy, conducted by  Dr. Kathleen Brady of the Metropolitan Studies Institute at the University of South Carolina Upstate, showed Spartanburg County’s poverty rate was 17.8 percent in 2014, the latest data available.

Almost 14 percent of families in Spartanburg County live in poverty, according to the study.

In response to this work, several agencies in Spartanburg County have teamed up to assist 2,000 families in becoming self-sufficient in 2,000 days.
