Macon, Ga. – USC Upstate senior Ryan Cornfield has been named the A-Sun Men’s Golfer of the Week following his individual performance on the course last weekend, it was announced this afternoon by the conference office.
Cornfield recorded his first career outright victory, and second win of his career, last weekend at the Furman Intercollegiate in Greenville. The Dudley, England native tied a tournament record after shooting a 13-under 203 over three rounds, winning the event by three strokes. Cornfield finished the event with scores of 70, 64 and 69, and has now posted rounds of 69 or better three times in his last six rounds.
He set a school record on Saturday by carding an 8-under 64 during the second round, besting his old mark by one stroke achieved last year at the Camden Collegiate Invitational. The round of 64 was also the best turned in so far this season by an A-Sun golfer. Cornfield concluded tournament play first in par 4 scoring at 7-under and a 3.77 stroke average, and 18 birdies over 54 holes.
Upstate also compiled its best team performance of the season by placing third with a combined score of 7-under 857. The Spartans have placed sixth or better in each of their last three tournaments.
It is the third A-Sun Men’s Golfer of the Week honor for Cornfield in his career.
