Recent graduate and USC Upstate women’s basketball player Brittany Starling has signed to play with Kangoeroes Willebroek in Belgium Division I, it was announced recently. Kangoeroes Willebroek is located in Willebroek, Belgium.
“I am extremely excited and a bit anxious at the same time,” said Starling. “It is a blessing and I thank God that He has given me the opportunity. It still feels surreal.”
Starling joins Shelby Hicks and Yakeeshia Ross as Upstate players who have signed professional contracts. She became the first player in school history, and tenth player in Atlantic Sun history, to score 1,000 career points and pull down 1,000 career rebounds. A College Sports Madness Fourth Team All-Mid Major selection, the Sumter, S.C. native was named A-Sun Player of the Week three times during her senior season. Starling was the only player to earn First Team All-Conference and All-Academic Team accolades. She is the program leader with 1,120 rebounds and fourth all-time with 1,533 points.
“We are very happy for Brittany” said Upstate head coach Tammy George. “She has worked very hard for this moment and it is nice to see all that hard work pay off for her.”
The 2016-17 season for Kangoeroes Willebroek will begin in September.
“My expectations are to just play my game,” said Starling of her first professional season. “I am not setting any unrealistic goals but I plan to be who I am and have always been, and that is dominant.”
