Lexi Shubert, Ryan Rector Selected to A-Sun Academic All-Conference Team

Macon, Ga. – USC Upstate softball players Lexi Shubert and Ryan Rector were selected to the A-Sun Academic All-Conference Team on Monday afternoon in recognition of their performance this year both on the field and in the classroom.

Shubert was a unanimous selection to the Academic All-Conference Team after also being named to the squad last year. The Hickory, N.C. native finished the regular season with a 7-5 record and 3.15 ERA in 22 appearances and 18 starts. She registered four shutouts and limited opponents to a .226 average at the plate. Shubert tossed a total of 77.2 innings on the mound this season and allowed 41 runs (35 earned) on 64 hits, 36 walks and 72 strikeouts. She finished seventh in the A-Sun in strikeouts. Shubert posted four complete game shutouts this season against La Salle, Western Carolina, Jacksonville and North Florida. She recorded a season-high 10 strikeouts in a five-inning win over La Salle, and began the year with nine against Gardner-Webb. Shubert would not allow a walk in five of her appearances. She boasts a 3.84 GPA and is majoring in art studio.

Ryan Rector

Rector has started and played in 50 games this season, primarily as a right fielder. The Belton, S.C. native was third on the team in hitting this season at .338 with a team-leading 15 home runs and 48 RBI. Rector also led the team with 109 total bases and .681 slugging percentage, while ranking second with 39 runs scored. She hit seven of her home runs in conference play and compiled a .655 slugging percentage in 17 league games. Rector finished the regular season first in the A-Sun in home runs, RBI and slugging percentage, and was fourth in runs scored. Rector was named A-Sun Player of the Week twice. She hit three home runs in a game twice this season against Valparaiso and Stetson, while homering two times against Lipscomb. Rector homered in four consecutive at-bats versus Valparaiso and SIU Edwardsville. She drove in a career-high six RBI against Lipscomb, and had five RBI in the win over Valparaiso. She currently has a 3.57 GPA and is majoring in elementary education.

Shubert and Rector are two of five players in program history to be named A-Sun Academic All-Conference, joining former Spartans Anna Miller (2014), Maddison Kieffer (2013) and Hannah Alexander (2012).

Jacksonville’s Victoria Brown was named the A-Sun Scholar-Athlete of the Year.
