The second of three Hub City Empty Bowls bowl-making sessions for 2016 will be Thursday, July 21, 6-8:30 p.m. at West Main Artists Co-Op in Spartanburg, during the city’s monthly ArtWalk. The public is invited to handmake clay pottery bowls at no cost and with professional-grade materials and instruction. The bowls will be used in October at Soup Day to raise money to help feed local citizens who might not have enough to eat. In Spartanburg County, about 15 percent of the population is classified as a “food insecure.” Empty Bowls is a worldwide grassroots phenomenon raising millions of dollar toward hunger relief. Last year, Hub City Empty Bowls donated $26,000 to the non-profit agency TOTAL Ministries toward this mission. The last opportunity to make bowls will Aug. 27.
