Dr. Alexander Akulli has been named director of the Center for International Studies at the University of South Carolina Upstate. He began his duties on August 1.
“Dr. Akulli brings 15 years of progressive and multidimensional experience in international higher education to USC Upstate, which will greatly benefit The Center in its efforts to provide enhanced international experiences for USC Upstate students and faculty members and in fostering interaction between the University and the international community,” said Dr. Clif Flynn, interim senior vice chancellor for academic affairs.
USC Upstate has reciprocal agreements with various universities around the world that offers students the opportunity to study or conduct internships abroad. The Center provides curricular and personal support for international students, as well as assistance with internship placement in international and American local businesses.
Akulli previously served as the director of the Center for Global Education at Lynchburg College in Lynchburg, Virginia. He earned a Ph.D. in education from Michigan State University and a master’s in counseling from Cornerstone University.
