USC Upstate head men’s soccer coach Greg Hooks has announced today the schedule for the upcoming 2016 season, one that features 11 home games at County University Soccer Stadium.
Upstate will open the season with three exhibition games at home before beginning the regular season at County University Soccer Stadium against Presbyterian College on Aug. 29. The game will end a stretch where the Spartans will play four games over the course of two weeks with the inclusion of exhibition contests against Spartanburg Methodist on Aug. 15, Bluefield College on Aug. 17 and Newberry on Aug. 22.
Following the season opener, Upstate will play five games against non-conference opponents prior to starting the ASUN portion of its schedule. The Spartans will have three of those games at home versus Liberty on Sept. 6, Gardner-Webb on Sept. 10 and High Point on Sept. 17. The Spartans hit the road for two non-conference matches with Appalachian State on Sept. 13 and Wofford on Sept. 20. Upstate closes out non-conference play on Oct. 4 with a home game versus Georgia State.
The ASUN portion of the 2016 schedule consists of six contests with three taking place at home and three on the road. The Spartans will play host to Jacksonville on Oct. 1, NJIT on Oct. 15 and North Florida in the regular season finale on Oct. 29. Upstate travels to face Stetson in the conference opener on Sept. 24, and finishes up at Lipscomb on Oct. 8 and Florida Gulf Coast on Oct. 22.
The first round of the ASUN Tournament will take place on Nov. 4 and will be played at campus sites the first two rounds. The championship game is being hosted by the highest remaining seed on Nov. 12.
The Spartans return 10 letterwinners from last year’s team, including five starters, which made an appearance in the ASUN Tournament championship game for the first time in program history. Upstate also welcomes in a total of 19 newcomers to the 2016 squad.
