Watershed Ecology Center Programs Have an Impact

August 22, 2016 at 7:47 am

During the 2015-2016 academic school year, we reached more than 19,000 students and presented over 950 programs in public, private, and home school groups in all Spartanburg County districts and the Blue Ridge community area. Each program aligns with the new South Carolina academic standards.

We have revised our website at www.uscupstate.edu/wec. It has all our school educational programs listed from kindergarten through eighth grade. It includes a brief description of each lesson, the topics and standards covered, and whether or not the program includes a live animal.

We have completed two videos, “Water Matters” for second grade and “Water, Water, Everywhere” for third grade. Each video is about 3-5 minutes in length with great pictures, dialogue and music. They contain background information about the Watershed Ecology Center, the program material and how to schedule a program.

Our website also has all our community outreach programs listed with a description of each. Each presentation is available free of charge to your local community group, civic group, homeowners association, club or organization. Information and updates are available about our storm drain markings and Adopt-A-Stream programs.

Our internet-based scheduling system is also located at www.uscupstate.edu/wec. It is up to date for the 2016-2017 academic school year and ready for teachers to register programs for next year. Teachers can use the online scheduling tool, or they can contact WEC at 864-503-5728 and we can schedule programs for them.
