The SpartAlert Emergency Notification System allows the University to provide you with critical information when unexpected circumstances arise that pose a threat of imminent danger. Our first alert will sound on Sept. 14.
Students are strongly encouraged to visit my.sc.edu to provide a cell phone number, email address and alternate cell phone in order to receive the alerts in the event of an emergency. While parents are not able to sign up for SpartAlert, as a student you can list a parent’s cell phone as the alternate phone number to allow him or her to receive the messages.
Faculty and Staff are strongly encouraged to visit https://vip.sc.edu/ to provide a cell phone number, email address and alternate cell phone in order to receive the alerts in the event of an emergency
With everyone’s participation, this system strengthens emergency preparedness. You must sign up for the service in order to receive alerts.
By registering for SpartAlert, you will receive immediate notice of situations (via text to your cell phone) that could place you in harm’s way. You will also receive critical information and updates via email, University home page and social media when unexpected circumstances arise that pose a threat of imminent danger.
This system is used for such situations as tornado or other weather-related emergency, man-made disaster (fire, chemical spill or release, etc.), active shooter or major power disruption that causes class cancellation/school closing. The system is not used for routine campus announcements/news, street or parking lot closings, or other routine information dissemination.
