The USC Upstate women’s golf team opens its 2016 season this week as the Spartans travel to the coast for the CSU Fall Invitational hosted by Charleston Southern from Mount Pleasant’s Rivertowne Country Club.
Upstate is one of nine teams competing in the two-day tournament along with: Charleston Southern, Longwood, College of Charleston, Limestone, Georgia Southern, Presbyterian College, High Point and Bethune-Cookman.
The Spartans are sending out a five-player lineup that will consist of two newcomers in Pan Paksanont and Anna Chanthapaeng. Joining the freshman duo at the season opener are Payton Culler, Sidney Dermody and Allea Hawkins.
The CSU Fall Invitational will be played Monday and Tuesday at the par-72, 5808-yard Rivertowne Country Club. The teams are slated to play 36 holes on Monday beginning at 8:30 a.m. Final round action on Tuesday consists of 18 holes and will tee off at 9:00 a.m.
Upstate returns four letterwinners from last year’s team in Culler, Dermody, Hawkins and Allie Gennaula. Paksanont and Chanthapaeng are two of four newcomers this season as they are joined by Marley DeFreitas and Caroline Heustess.

The CSU Fall Invitational is one of five events during the fall season for the Spartans. Upstate will be back in action Sept. 26-27 at the Lady Pirate Intercollegiate in Greenville, S.C.
