For the second time this season, the USC Upstate volleyball team will hit the road for tournament play as the Spartans head to Lynchburg, Va. to compete in the four-team Liberty Invitational from the Vines Center.
Upstate opens tournament play Friday evening as it faces host Liberty at 7 p.m. The Spartans will then play two games on Saturday against ETSU at 10:00 a.m. and Hampton at 4:30 p.m.
Upstate opened up its home schedule on Tuesday as it dropped a 3-2 decision to the Gardner-Webb Runnin’ Bulldogs. Madison Haake picked up her second triple-double of the season after leading the Spartans with a team-high 13 kills, 20 assists and 14 digs. Montana Swanson also picked up her first career double-double after setting two career-highs with 10 kills and 16 digs. Kaleigh Kelley also set a new career-high in the match after tallying 35 digs.
Liberty and Hampton enter the weekend with records of 0-3 and 0-2, respectively, and ETSU is 3-0. The Spartans currently lead the all-time series over Liberty 1-0 and 3-0 against Hampton, but trails ETSU 14-4. Upstate and ETSU are facing each other for the second time in two weeks as the Buccaneers defeated the Spartans 3-0 last Saturday at the DoubleTree Hotel Buccaneer Challenge.
