Paksanont, Chanthaphaeng Post Top Finish for Upstate at Winthrop Intercollegiate

Rock Hill, S.C. – USC Upstate freshman Pan Paksanont carded a final round 76 on Sunday afternoon and, along with fellow freshman Anna Chanthaphaeng, finished in a tie for 16th place to lead the Spartan women’s golf team during the final round of the Winthrop Intercollegiate from the par 72, 5993-yard Rock Hill Country Club.

Upstate had an overall score of 656 (336-320) after shooting a second round 320 on Sunday. The Spartans finished play at the Winthrop Intercollegiate in seventh place.

Paksanont was one of two golfers to shoot a 76 and tied with Chanthaphaeng for 16th place with a two-round score of 160 (84-76). Chanthaphaeng, who recorded her best finish of the season, had a final round 77 after opening play on Saturday with an 83.

Payton Culler tied Paksanont for the lowest score of the day as her round of 76 moved the junior up 15 spots in the individual standings into a tie for 30th place. Culler concluded the event with a total score of 165 (89-76).

Sidney Dermody and Allea Hawkins rounded out the standings for the Spartans as both tied for 42nd position. Hawkins posted a final round 91 and Dermody added a 92 to finish at 176 for the tournament.

Host school Winthrop took home the team championship after shooting a second round 306 and won by 14 strokes over Appalachian State. Winthrop’s Ashley Sloup and Chelsea Dantonio shared individual medalist honors at 5-over 149.
