Ash Wednesday Observance Set for Wednesday, March 1

Ash Wednesday, March, 1, marks the beginning of Lent, the 40-day period leading up to the Christian celebration of Easter. All members of the University of South Carolina Upstate family – students as well as full- and part-time staff and faculty — are invited to join us at 1:30 p.m. March 1 in Room 2001 of the Health Education Center for an Ash Wednesday service and mass. Father Ryan, a local priest who is familiar to many of those who are involved in the Catholic Campus Ministry, will lead the celebration of this very special mass.

For most Christians, Lent is a time of introspection and preparation for Easter. The 40-day period (less four Sundays), represents the time Jesus spent in the desert enduring the Devil’s temptations and preparing for his ministry. We invite everyone to join us this year as we enter this period of reflection that is so meaningful within the scope of our religious lives.
