LakePoint, Ga. – USC Upstate sophomore guard Jure Span was recognized by the ASUN Conference this afternoon as he was one of eight players named to the All-Academic Team recognizing student-athletes for their performance both on the court and in the classroom.

Span becomes the third Upstate men’s basketball player in program history, and first since Mario Blessing in 2014-15, to be selected to the All-Academic Team. Blessing was named to the All-Academic Team three times from 2012-15 and garnered Scholar-Athlete of the Year accolades in 2014-15, and Chalmers Rogers earned a spot on the team in 2011-12.

The Litjia, Slovenia native currently holds a 3.76 GPA in the classroom and is an exercise & sport science major at USC Upstate.

Span played in all 31 games this season for the Spartans and made 11 starts. He averaged 3.4 points and 2.1 rebounds per game, while ranking third on the team in assists with 83 (2.7 per game). Span also finished the year 16th in the conference in assists. He set a new career-high this season for rebounds in a game with eight as Upstate began conference play with a home victory over NJIT. Span also tied his career-high of 11 points against Jacksonville and dished out five or more assists in a game six times. He had a season-high seven assists against Colgate during the Holy City Hoops Classic in Charleston.
