LakePoint, Ga. – USC Upstate senior pitcher Lexi Shubert garnered the first ASUN Pitcher of the Week honor this season as she was recognized this afternoon by the conference for her performance in three starts last week.
Shubert posted a 2-1 record with wins over Gardner-Webb and Charleston Southern, and compiled a 1.56 ERA in 18.0 innings pitched. She allowed just four runs on eight hits and two walks while registering a total of 23 strikeouts.
The Hickory, N.C. native tossed three straight complete games to begin the season and limited opponents to just a .133 average at the plate. She also gave up one run or less in two of her three starts.
Shubert began the season on Feb. 9 with a complete game shutout of Gardner-Webb as the Spartans posted an 8-0 victory in five innings. She held the Runnin’ Bulldogs to just one hit, no walks and nine strikeouts while throwing 50 pitches. Shubert followed with another nine strikeout performance in a 5-3 road win at Charleston Southern as part of the Wingate by Wyndham Invitational.
She closed out the week by holding 17th-ranked Missouri to only one hit to go with five strikeouts in a 1-0 loss on Sunday.
Shubert currently ranks in the top 10 for the ASUN in wins, complete games, innings pitched, strikeouts and ERA.
The ASUN Pitcher of the Week accolade is the sixth for Shubert in her career.
