The USC Upstate softball team was well-represented on the ASUN All-Academic Team released by the conference on Monday afternoon as Lexi Shubert, Abbie Millete and Ansley Gilstrap were all recognized while Shubert was selected as the ASUN Scholar-Athlete of the Year for the second time in her career.

Shubert, a senior from Hickory, N.C., is the first two-time Softball Scholar-Athlete of the Year recipient in conference history. She earned the award back in 2015 and is a three-time honoree on the All-Academic Team. She was a unanimous selection along with Millete. It is the third time in the last four years that Upstate has had the Scholar-Athlete of the Year as former Spartan Anna Miller picked up the distinction in 2014.

A graphic design major holding a 3.87 grade-point average, Shubert has compiled a 17-4 record this season with a 1.52 ERA and four saves. She appeared in 33 games with 24 starts and has struck out 153 batters in 147.0 innings. She was named ASUN Pitcher of the Week three times this season and struck out a career-best 11 batters twice. Shubert leads the ASUN in saves while ranking in the top 10 in games started, wins, complete games, innings pitched, strikeouts, strikeouts per seven innings and earned run average. Nationally, Shubert is in the top 50 in earned run average, hits allowed per seven innings, saves and shutouts. She threw the second no-hitter of her career on Feb. 22 at Furman and has not allowed a run in 19 appearances. Shubert pitched a career-high eight innings in a 3-2 win against Campbell.

A senior from Jacksonville, Fla., Millete has a 3.89 grade-point average and is majoring in business administration with a concentration in management. She leads the team in hitting with a .336 average and eight home runs, while driving in 30 RBI. Millete ranks third on the team with 11 doubles. She is second with 13 multi-hit and eight multi-RBI games. Millete ranks in the top 10 for the ASUN in home runs, slugging percentage and defensive putouts. She drove in a career-high four RBI versus Presbyterian College, while equaling her career-best of three hits at South Carolina. Millete was named ASUN Player of the Week on March 27.

Gilstrap has a 3.90 grade-point average and is majoring in exercise and sport science. She has started in all 52 games this season at shortstop and ranks third on the team with a .325 average. The sophomore from Blythewood, S.C. recorded two home runs and 27 RBI, and is second with 13 doubles. She currently leads the team in stolen bases with a 31-for-32 mark, including 11-for-11 against ASUN opponents. Gilstrap has a nine game hitting streak, second-best on the team, and reached base in a team-leading 21 straight games. She sits in the top 10 for the ASUN in runs scored, doubles, triples and stolen bases. She set new career-highs this season with four hits against Radford and stole three bases versus Purdue, while tying her career-best of four RBI against Georgetown.
