Dr. June Carter

Exceptional service across our institution and in our community embodies the vision and mission of USC Upstate. Dr. June C.D. Carter, a professor of Spanish and the director of the Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning, was named the recipient of USC Upstate’s Annual Award for Faculty Excellence in Service.

Carter has been a powerful voice energizing and encouraging first-rate teaching among her peers on campus. Over the past five years she has staged an innovative series of programs, seminars and workshops that help equip faculty to not simply reach their students but to inspire and even challenge them.

A tireless and effective champion within her own specialty — world language instruction — Carter’s expertise and passion have made her a natural leader and liaison between the university and world language instructors in the Upstate and across South Carolina.

Her activities to make world language instruction and cultural awareness a vibrant part of the curriculum led one of her reviewers to note, “Dr. Carter is truly making the field of world language instruction better for thousands of teachers and for more many more thousands of students through her leadership, her teaching, and her dedication of time and effort.” Her work highlights the rich international connections within the state and prepares our institution, students and community for continued success both at home and abroad.
