Learn the Proper Steps to Take in the Event of Campus Violence

The University of South Carolina Upstate Public Safety Department will hold a July 20 training to help faculty and staff know what to do in the event of violence on the campus.

The “Active Shooter/Mitigating Workplace Violence” training will be from 2-4 p.m. July 20 in the Public Safety building on North Campus Boulevard at Valley Falls Road. University police Chief Klay Peterson said that while the training isn’t mandatory for staff or faculty, it is recommended, and can be especially valuable for someone who is new to the campus.

“This is a class that we offer three or four times a year,” Peterson said. “It is for faculty and staff that have either never taken the class or would like to take it again as a refresher.”

Seats are limited, and the trainings usually fill up quickly, Peterson said. To attend, please RSVP to Glynda Miller.
