Karla Beasley Named ASUN Softball Player of the Week

LakePoint, Ga. – USC Upstate senior first baseman Karla Beasley was recognized by the ASUN this afternoon as she was selected the Softball Player of the Week following her performance last week in five games against Charlotte, Marshall and Winthrop.

Beasley earns her first career ASUN Softball Player of the Week honor and is the second USC Upstate player to receive the weekly recognition this season. Elisa Cecchetti was named the ASUN Player of the Week on Feb. 19.

The Jacksonville, Fla. native compiled a .500 average (7-for-14) at the plate last week with two home runs and five RBI. Beasley also tallied a 1.071 slugging percentage, .579 on-base percentage, 15 total bases, five runs scored and two doubles.

Beasley had two multi-hit games last week highlighted by tying her career-high of three hits after going 3-for-3 with one home run in a 3-2 win over Charlotte in game two of a doubleheader on Feb. 20. She capped off her week by driving in three runs on two hits and one home run during a 10-2 win over Winthrop in five innings on Feb. 24 to complete the doubleheader sweep.

With her three-run homer against Winthrop, Beasley moved past former teammate, and current Spartan volunteer assistant coach, Kendall Settlemyre, into third place all-time in career home runs with 35.
