USC Upstate Softball Signs Ten for 2019 Season

The USC Upstate softball program and head coach Chris Hawkins have announced the addition of ten signees that will join the program beginning with the 2019 season.

Signing to play at USC Upstate are Brin Balcolm, Tori Glines, Sajarie Jones, Madison Lanoux, Riley McTiernan, Sarah Price, Alexa Sanchez, Riley Sheehy, Marisa Soterakis and Ashlyn Wallace. The signees are from the states of Florida, Pennsylvania, South Carolina and Texas.

“This group of new players we are bringing in is going to give us more depth and versatility at key positions,” said Hawkins. “They have all of the pieces that we need to be a complete team. I am happy that each of them have decided to continue their softball careers at USC Upstate!”

The ten members of the signing class are:

Brin Balcom | Outfielder | Jacksonville, Fla. | Paxon High School
Balcom is a 5-5 outfielder from Paxon High School where she lettered three years in softball, two in soccer and one in swimming.

She was a member of a District Championship team three years in a row at Paxon. Balcom has also played travel ball for Santa Fe Inferno, Jacksonville Streamline, Jacksonville Storm and First Coast Fire. She won a USSSA World Series championship with the Jacksonville Streamline.

She is the daughter of Bobby and Brenda Balcom.

Tori Glines | First Base | Pearland, Texas | Pearland High School
Glines is a 5-5 first baseman from Pearland High School where she played on the softball team. She played travel ball for the Texas Bomber.

She is the daughter of Luke Glines and Kelly Dennis.

Sajarie Jones | Outfielder | Cape Coral, Fla. | North Fort Myers High School
Jones is a 5-3 outfielder from North Fort Myers High School where she earned four letters in basketball and softball.

She also served as an athletic trainer on the football team for four years. Jones was a team captain as a senior for both basketball and softball. She holds the single-season record for hits with a 41 during her junior season.

Jones was a two-time First Team All-Area performer by News Press as a sophomore and junior, and was named All-State during her sophomore season. She played on two District Championship and one Regional Championship teams. On the basketball court, Jones was named Defensive Player of the Year as a sophomore. Jones played travel ball for Santa Fe Inferno.

She is the daughter of Marcus and Shelley Jones.

Madison Lanoux | Second Base | Fleming Island, Fla. | Fleming Island High School
Lanoux is a 5-4 second baseman from Fleming Island High School where she lettered in softball.

She has been an All-Conference performer each of her previous three seasons and posted a .415 batting average last year.

Lanoux has played travel ball for Jacksonville Storm Granville and Gainesville Gold Crawford. She has batted over .350 every year and was part of an ASA Southern National Championship team in 2016.

She is the daughter of Marty and Angie Lanoux.

Riley McTiernan | Middle Infielder | Conway, S.C. | Carolina Forest High School
McTiernan is a 5-6 middle infielder from Carolina Forest High School and lettered in softball for four years.

She was an All-Region performer and recipient of the Golden Glove. McTiernan also excels in the classroom serving as a member of the National Honor Society, English National Honor Society, Math National Honor Society, Science National Honor Society and Beta Club.

McTiernan has played travel ball for Carolina Flames and Carolina Fire.

She is the daughter of Ron and Shari Miller.

Sarah Price | Infielder/Utility | Landrum, S.C. | Landrum High School
Price is a 5-7 infielder/utility player from Landrum High School where she lettered in volleyball, basketball, softball and track and field.

She is currently third nationally for consecutive games with a hit. Price is a three-time All-State and four-time All-Region performer in softball. She has played on three region championship teams in softball and two in basketball. Price was the Female Athlete of the Year in South Carolina in Class AA-Region I in 2016.

She has also won two state championships in weightlifting. Price played travel ball for 3rd Degree where she played in the nationals three times.

She is the daughter of David and Sandy Price.

Alexa Sanchez | Third Base | Miami, Fla. | Doral Academy Preparatory
Sanchez is a 5-4 third baseman from Doral Academy Preparatory where she lettered in softball. She played travel ball for Gold Coast Hurricanes.

She is the daughter of Juan Sanchez and Vilma De la Rosa.

Riley Sheehy | Outfielder | Newtown, Pa. | Council Rock High School North
Sheehy is a 5-2 outfielder from Council Rock High School North where she lettered four years in softball, two in soccer and one in basketball.

This past season she was a SOL All-Conference and Bucks County Golden Team honoree. Sheehy earned numerous accolades as a sophomore including Offensive Most Valuable Player, Big 9 All-Conference and First Team All-Area. As a freshman, she garnered accolades as Big 9 All-Conference, First Team All-Area and Offensive Most Valuable Player.

Sheehy played travel ball for Rochester Royals and Newtown Rock Gold.

She is the daughter of Patrick and Stephanie Sheehy.

Marisa Soterakis | Middle Infielder | Miramar, Fla. | American Heritage School
Soterakis is a 5-2 middle infielder from American Heritage School where she lettered in both softball and bowling.

A career .400 hitter at the plate, she was named First Team All-County by the Miami Herald last season. Soterakis has played on one state championship team and two state runner-up teams.

Soterakis played travel ball for South Florida Diamond Dusters and Gold Coast Hurricanes.

She is the daughter of Andrew and Jennifer Soterakis.

Ashlyn Wallace | Outfielder | Gaffney, S.C. | Gaffney High School
Wallace is a 5-3 outfielder from nearby Gaffney High School where she lettered six years in softball and two in volleyball.

Boasting a career .383 batting average, Wallace has started six years on the varsity softball team. She was an All-State, All-Region and All-Area performer at Gaffney. In the classroom, she is a member of the Beta Club and Ring of Honor, and is an Upstate Junior Scholar.

Wallace played travel ball for 3rd Degree.

She is the daughter of Shane and Regina Wallace.
