A group of 25 students is headed to London this summer for a unique opportunity at Kingston University and the International Youth Arts Festival.

USC Upstate officials are proposing to expand a popular interdisciplinary program that recently was heralded by experts on child abuse prevention. The school’s child advocacy studies minor, a 21-credit interdisciplinary program, has quickly become one of the college’s fastest-growing programs.

About 40 students from local high schools are participating in a service project with USC Upstate’s Youth Leadership Institute.

More than 30 students who graduated this May were accepted into graduate programs across the country. The university celebrated their accomplishments recently at the Graduate School Sendoff Luncheon.

The South Carolina Academy of Authors selected Tom McConnell’s “How We Live Now” for the honor which was awarded in April at the academy’s induction ceremony.

Tyler Farnsworth, a chemistry major, and Joshua Johnson, a biology major, will be graduating from USC Upstate today with plans to pursue their Ph.D.s at UNC Chapel Hill and University of California Berkeley, respectively.

Laketra Cureton received one of only seven internships offered this year and was selected from nearly 100 applicants from colleges and universities across South Carolina.
