Peter Rogers, senior IMS major, won second place in a national competition called “CMD-IT Student Competition — It’s All About Inclusion.”  The objective of this competition was to have students develop descriptions of computing projects that they find exciting, inspiring, and appealing to students from underrepresented groups.  Rogers’ paper, “Endocrinology Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) for Improving Diabetes Management,” was an extension of his senior seminar paper prepared for Dr. Tyrone S. Toland. The paper presented an approach to applying SOA concepts to a problem in the health field. Rogers receives a free trip to the 2011 Tapia Celebration of Diversity in Computing Conference in San Francisco, Calif., and a cash prize of $1,500.
