Spartanburg, S.C. – Douglas Jackson, an instructor of Spanish at the University of South Carolina Upstate, has received the annual Hearts and Hands Award from the South Carolina School for the Deaf and the Blind (SCSDB) Board of Commissioners. Established in 1997, the Hearts and Hands Award recognizes those who have helped further SCSDB and its mission through extraordinary efforts with great kindness and compassion.

Jackson received the award for his commitment to creating accessible publications and forms for Spanish-speaking parents and families, providing outreach services in the Hispanic community, and giving USC Upstate students real-life opportunities to hone their translation skills. SCSDB will present the award to Jackson on May 6.
