On Saturday May 14, USC Upstate’s Commercial Music Group took top honors in regional Battle of the Bands competition.   The event, presented by BLVD Music and Spartanburg Parks Commission, was held at Va-Du-Mar McMillan Park in Boiling Springs, S.C., and showcased 14 bands.

Directed by Dr. Doug Scarborough, the band (under the name “the Big Show”) performed a 15 minute set of music containing original songs written by members of the band.  “They were absolutely sensational!” Scarborough says.

For winning, the band gets a spot on News Channel 7 (CBS) and studio time at Whitestone Studios of Greenville.  The group acts as a recruiting arm and good will ambassador for the university, and is a new addition to the growing Commercial Music Program at USC Upstate.
