Campus Rec and Jitsu Club To Perform Demonstration

August 22, 2011 at 4:44 pm

Campus Recreation and The Jitsu Club will be performing demonstrations of Jiu Jitsu on 8/25/11 and 8/26/11 at Noon and 1:00PM at the Lower Quad.

Based primarily on locking and throwing techniques, Jiu Jitsu provides an extremely effective self-defense system. The wide variety of restraint and take down techniques allow for a controlled response to a violent confrontation and, for this reason, Jiu Jitsu techniques are used by police forces worldwide. The self-defense techniques taught utilize the attacker’s movement and momentum against him/herself. The blocking techniques used are “soft blocks” that mainly deflect the attack rather than using the “hard blocks” associated with many striking arts. Many techniques utilize locking systems (arm and wrist manipulations, etc.) to gain control of the attacker, which can then be turned into throws or controlled restraints depending on the severity of the attack.

Come and enjoy the demonstration and learn more about the club and our activities. We look forward to seeing you there!
