Grades: Do teachers give them, or do students earn them?

March 21, 2012 at 2:48 pm

The Center for Teaching Excellence invites you to participate in a “Teaching and Learning Conversation” focusing on studies conducted by Maryellen Weimer,  editor of The Teaching Professor Newsletter and professor emerita of Teaching and Learning at Penn State Berks. The conversation will cover:

  • Grades do matter, they get students interviews and into grad school;
  • Grades build confidence and diminish it;
  • Grades are imprecise measures of learning, at some point the grade may need to be influenced by a wise teacher;
  • Grading, the step of assigning a summative symbol representing overall performance;
  • Grades, ways to improve them…”feedforward” and “good feedback”

Join us for coffee and open conversation between 12:30 and 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 28 in the CTE Conference Room (Media 234).  Come when you can and bring your lunch.
