“An Evening With Tish Oney” will feature music by Harry Warren, Peggy Lee, Richard Rodgers and Henry Nemo, among others. In addition, the evening’s program will include songs Oney has arranged and/or composed. They were selected from several of her critically-acclaimed touring shows including Jazz Seasons, The Peggy Lee Project, and her Sweet Youth CD release tour concert, and include “Lonely Evening,” “Year-Round Blues” and “Waltz For Ellie.”

The concert opens at 7:30 p.m. on September 11, 2012 in the Humanities & Performing Arts Center. Tickets are $2 for students, $5 for faculty and staff, and $8 for the general public. Call the Box Office to reserve your tickets at (864) 503- 5695 Monday – Friday between 1 and 5 p.m. Payment must be made by cash or check as credit/debit cards cannot be accepted.

With a DMA in jazz studies from the University of Southern California, Tish Oney maintains an active touring and recording career. Her singing has been featured internationally on radio, television and internet media. In 2008 she embarked on a national tour following the release of “Dear Peg,” and continues to appear worldwide as a touring performing artist. She has headlined at Earshot Jazz Festival at Kirkland Performance Center (Kirkland, Wash.), Syracuse Jazzfest (Syracuse, N.Y.), Wilson Center for the Arts (Brookfield, Wis.), Schaumburg Prairie Center for the Arts (Schaumburg, Ill.), Thousand Oaks Civic Arts Plaza (Thousand Oaks, Calif.), Glenridge Performing Arts Center (Sarasota, Fla.) and the Hawaii Convention Center (Honolulu, Hawaii), among other regional theaters and large venues. She has performed at regional jazz hotspots from The Jazz Bakery and Charlie O’s Jazz Club in Los Angeles to The Jazz Corner in Hilton Head, S.C. and The Metropolitan Room in New York.

A nationally-touring jazz and classical vocalist, recording artist, pianist, arranger and composer, Oney was recently named assistant professor of commercial music at USC Upstate and she will be coordinating the commercial voice program within the music major. She will be teaching jazz history, singing master class, jazz combo, music theory and private voice lessons.

The 2012 -2013 academic year is the third year of USC Upstate’s commercial music major program. According to Gregg Akkerman, director of jazz studies, USC Upstate offers the only commercial music major program in the state that embraces contemporary music styles, which, he says, will be more likely to lead to employment in the music industry for USC Upstate music program graduates.
