Bill Drake, adjunct instructor of communication studies, was honored on October 27 by the Wofford National Alumni Association when he received the Distinguished Citizens Award, given to non-alums who make significant contributions to the community.  Drake is a Ripon College alumnus and former “voice of Wofford Terriers” athletics.

Since the mid-1970s, Spartanburg citizens have been “awake with Drake” on morning radio. In a way that is distinctive among modern news media professionals, he has worked for community improvement. For many years, for example, he has organized and hosted a “Battle of the Brains” program for area schools. For decades, he served as the “voice of the Terriers” on the public address system at Gibbs Stadium and the Benjamin Johnson Arena.
