The Shoestring Players at the University of South Carolina Upstate will hold auditions for Stephen Sondheim’s Assassins on Thursday, January 24 at 7:00 p.m. in the Performing Arts Center Theatre on the USC Upstate campus. Assassins will be performed April 11-13 at 8:00 p.m. and April 14 at 3:00 p.m.

Assassins explores the history of presidential assassinations in America, ranging from well-known historical figures such as John Wilkes Booth, John Hinckley, Jr., and Charles Manson groupie “Squeaky” Fromme to lesser known assassins and attempted assassins including Samuel Byck (attempted assassin of President Richard Nixon), Leon Czolgosz (assassin of President William McKinley), and Charles Giteau (assassin of President James Garfield).  Through a revealing series of songs and vignettes, we discover the social, political and economic motivations that drove each assassin and potential assassin to take to the gun!

Jimm Cox, professor of theatre and director of the Shoestring Players, will direct the production. For details, contact Jimm Cox at (864) 503-5697 or
