On February 1, and every Friday through tax season, 20 business majors at the George Dean Johnson, Jr. College of Business and Economics at the University of South Carolina Upstate, will be providing free tax preparation services to the community.

From 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., IRS-certified students will be preparing federal and state income tax returns as part of the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program through the United Way of the Piedmont. The assistance will be provided to individuals and families with a household income of less than $51,000 a year. The goal of the VITA program is to ensure that the Spartanburg community receives the tax credits and deductions for which they are eligible.

The Johnson College of Business is located at 160 E. Saint John St. in downtown Spartanburg. The program will be offered in the Stock Trading Lab, room 120.

Appointments should be booked through the United Way of the Piedmont at (864) 582-7556. For further information, contact Michael Wooten at, or visit!/vitauscuthegeorge/info.
