The UniUSC Upstateversity of South Carolina Upstate Jazz Combos will present Jazz Night at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 3 in the Humanities and Performing Arts Center.  This free concert will feature the music of Sonny Rollins, Duke Ellington, Horace Silver, Benny Golson, and other jazz greats.  The three combos are under the direction of Richard Marcus, brass instructor;  Shannon Hoover, bass instructor and music director of the Greenville Jazz Collective; and Adam Knight, guitar instructor and founder of Earsight, a funk/jazz project familiar to Greenville and Spartanburg audiences.

The commercial music program at USC Upstate has been growing rapidly since its inception in 2010.  The program includes courses in commercial music, jazz studies, music theory, music history, piano/keyboard, choir, guitar performance, composition, music entrepreneurship, singing performance, music technology and applied lessons.

“I was attracted to the commercial music program because the professors are not only knowledgeable but they maintain active performing careers,” said Camdon Tomlinson, a junior percussion major who will perform on Jazz Night.
